Buhari is the ‘most tweeted about’ African leader at U.N. summit

Social media platform, Twitter, is a key communication channel for governments and world leaders. Most information of their activities are posted on the platform.

At the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, their handles are active with information on their respective engagements.

A Twitter survey handle, Twiplomacy, has disclosed that Nigeria’s Buhari was the most tweeted about world leader on Day 1 of the summit of world leaders – the day in question was September 19, 2017.

Despite being the most Tweeted about African leader, he placed tenth overall on a list that had U.S. President Donald Trump at the top. Both leaders delivered their respective addresses on day 1. Buhari’s second as president and Trump’s first since winning elections in November 2016.

Behind Trump was Narendra Modi (Indian Prime Minister), Nicolas Maduro (President of Venezuela), Shinzo Abe (Japanese Prime Minsiter) and Emmanuel Macron (French President) occupying second to fifth spots respectively.

The sixth to ninth slot was as follows: Enrique Pene Nieto (Mexican President), Benjamin Netanyahu (Israeli Prime Minister), Recep Erdogan (Turkish President) and Moon Jae-in (South Korean President).
