The final burial rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, was held today, Thursday, January 19 after days of traditional funeral rites at the King Solomon Park.
The rites began on Monday, January 16, when the 13th queenmother of the Ashanti Kingdom was laid in state. Dignitaries from all walks of life trooped to the Manhyia Palace to file past the late queen, who was also mother to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
It will be followed by a procession along the streets of Bantama. Our trusted reporters tell us that the people of the Ashanti Kingdom have duly paid homage to their queenmother as the streets have been empty since morning.
The late Serwaa Ampem II reigned for 39 years. She was 111. She died on Monday, November 14.
